Should be a fun hard-R remake. Don't usually support remakes, but the Statham factor, makes it worth seeing!

Yes, I'll admit I'm slightly intrigued, but I will still wait for reviews before I plunge into this one. The remake might carry and R rating, but I will guarantee, without even seeing it, that it will be less "adult" than the original, which was rated PG, believe it or not.
I'm constantly struck by the amount of hard PGs that were released in the glorious '70s. These films might not have as many f-bombs or graphic violence as today's equivalents, but they are much more mature films.
I think this is because there was not as much emphasis put on the younger male demographic, i.e. pre / young teens to 20s, which is probably why toilet humor and dick jokes proliferate so much in today's genre flicks. There's also more pressure to produce films for maximum play in foreign markets (read: less dialogue and more action, so that nothing is "lost in translation.")
In something like Winner's MECHANIC, there is plenty of action, but it's balanced with solid character material and it has nuance, something that much of the modern audience finds "boring" or "too slow."
Statham's pretty good, but even on his best day, he will NEVER sniff Bronson greatness. I will grant him a solid grade for THE BANK JOB, however.
The original Mechanic was a classic. Bronson will always be a legend. The new Mechanic will just be another fun, but empty remake.
Also really enjoyed The Bank Job. The poster for that is very old school.
