Trailer Not on the DVD: Reckless (1984, James Foley)

"His name is Johnny Rourke."  Aidan Quinn on location of his debut film, James Foley's Reckless.

I always love trailers that begin with "His name is...." and this is one of them.  The v.o. artist is, of course, the late Don LaFontaine, the man who helped make such copy as "His name is..." archetypal.  The trailer prominently includes several of the pop songs that appear in the film so it's easy to see how this film was aggressively marketed on the fledgling MTV.  The film is available via the Warner Archive, but the trailer is, unfortunately, not on that disc.

I still can't believe this film hasn't been released on DVD. I wonder if its a music rights issue or the studio who owns just doesn't give a crap about it.

Man, I had a major crush on Daryl Hannah after this film.

Warner Bros. controls the film and I think it's a case of the latter: they don't have an interest in releasing a DVD because they don't see a significant demand for it. It was shown several years ago on one of the HD channels--Mojo, I think--and has been playing on TCM in Europe.

Daryl had quite a run with this film, BLADE RUNNER, SUMMER LOVERS, THE POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE, and, of course, SPLASH.

Hrm. You're probably right, there isn't much demand for the film which is a shame. I mean, geez, they could at least give it a bare bones release.

And you're right about Daryl. She had a great run for awhile. It was nice to see her pop up in the KILL BILL films. I thought that would give her career a shot in the arm but has she done much since?

Oh, how I love and adore this film.

The insert (think half of a one-sheet cut lengthwise) adorned every apartment I had for about 15 years.

This movie is made of awesomeness (and remains to this day the only Daryl Hannah film I can stomach.)
