"Making love to you is like riding a horse."
My most guilty pleasure, certainly of the '80s thanks, in part, to lines of dialogue like the one I quoted for the title of this post. This "novelisation" was published in Australia by Horwitz Grahame Books and "adapted from the movie" by Carl Ruhen. Like a lot of movie tie-ins, this one differs in interesting ways from the film, most notably with regards to the conclusion, which is melancholy and introspective in contrast to the joyously upbeat ending of the film. I wonder if it came from an earlier version of Randal Kleiser's script or if Mr. Ruhen took some poetic license.

Indeed! To think that Peter Gallagher would look down on this role after getting paid to spend two months in the Greek Isles playing the lover of two beautiful women...
does Gallagher still dismiss the film? He's done SO much worse since!

I think he may have come around to it more in recent years...as you've said, he's made LOTS worse since then! There was a comedic reference made to the film made by Gallagher's on-screen son Adam Brody in one episode of THE O.C. so it's clearly something that Gallagher gets some good-natured ribbing about from fellow actors and directors.
Yeah, Gallagher's had a spotty track record but at least he got to be in films by the Coen bros. and Steven Soderbergh so I guess he's not sweatin' it.

Not only that, but Altman gave him some plum roles in THE PLAYER and SHORT CUTS. Things haven't been better for Gallagher than in the early to mid '90s when he seemed to be a go-to guy for Soderbergh and Altman.
That line of dialogue is hilarious.
Would love to see a widescreen print of this film.
That's right! The Altman connection! I forgot about that. And, that led to a small role in MRS. PARKER & THE VICIOUS CIRCLE. Man, he DID have a great run in the 1990s.

Thanks for stopping in. Yeah, the "horse line" is probably the best line that Gallagher or any member of the cast gets to say in the film.
I was peeved when MGM released this film on DVD full-frame. Luckily, it's not a scope film so the effect is not absolutely fatal to one's enjoyment of the film. I wouldn't be surprised if it shows up on the MGM HD channel sometime.

For a little while, before Clooney came along, Gallagher was Soderbergh's man. His best role might be Larry Levy in THE PLAYER or Michael Chambers in THE UNDERNEATH, which I've always thought was an underrated neo-noir. Stormy Weathers in SHORT CUTS was also great.
Yeah, I like THE UNDERNEATH as well. I also really dig KAFKA which may be Soderbergh's most under-appreciated film.

Never did see KAFKA, but with your strong recommendation perhaps it's high time I did.
